Files, Sizes, Formats & Scanning header
What file size should my photos / images be?
This depends on the size of print that you’re looking to purchase. As a general rule, the larger the file size, the sharper the print (assuming you haven’t manipulated the file in Photoshop). Ideally all files should be displayed as CMYK .tiff files at a minimum of 300dpi. But we can accept all file types such as .tiff, .eps, .png, .psd, .PDF and .jpg. Your files are checked for compatibility before the canvas is printed.
What format?
The easiest way to get your images printed is to upload them in a JPEG (highest quality setting) or as a TIFF (with LZW compression) in Adobe or sRGB colour mode at 240ppi (computer generated images such as vector or line art is an exception - see below). This is the format that the majority of digital camera's save your files in. If you’d rather send them to us uncompressed in a TIFF, you can also do this on our website as long as it is below 75MB. If you are printing computer generated images such as vector or line art it is better to send us your image at 360ppi resolution to avoid interpolation that can cause unwanted effects such as moirĂ© pattern. You can of course send us files by post on a DVD or CD.
What is the maximum file size that I can upload?
Our web server will allow files up to 75MB and no wider than 10,000 pixels before it starts to cause problems. If you want to send us larger uncompressed files such as tiffs then please pop them on a DVD or CD and send them to our main address.
Can I send you a conventional lab print to scan and enlarge?
Yes, no problem at all. Please be sure to send it very carefully packaged, recorded delivery and include your details so we know where it’s come from. We will post it back with your finished canvas.
What if I don't understand any of the above?
Please don’t panic. Send us what you have and we will let you know if the quality is good enough before we come to print.
